Rinspeed has previewed its microMAX commuter vehicle concept ahead of its debut at the upcoming Geneva motor show, where it aims to blur the boundaries between cars. taxis and busses.

The prototype, measuring in at 3,700mm long and 2,200mm high, is designed to flexibly offer the benefits of both personal and public transport to those driving themselves to regular commuters in carpools – as shown in the delightfully cringe-inducing promo video photos.

With a footprint roughly the same as a Mini, the boxy microMAX has a large windshield and glasshouse with near-vertical roof pillars that emphasize how tall the concept is.

Inside, there's enough room for the driver, three passengers and an unfolded stroller or shopping cart. The headliner, roof pillars and surfaces have been designed to create a modern environment nicely complemented by a coffee maker, refrigerator for refreshments and unlimited connectivity.

Automotive multimedia and infotainment systems company Harman is using the Swiss concept to introduce its idea for an "urbanSWARM" community concept based on its Harman Cloud platform. With this Cloud connectivity, the system can change routes to account for realtime traffic information as well as easily navigate its multiple functions.

The VDO instrument panel sits directly in front of the driver, while the command center for urbanSWARM is represented by a 19-inch HD Harman touchscreen, which features a multi-dimensional HMI (Human Machine Interface) and offers expanded display functions.

There's definitely enough within the microMAX concept to arouse curiosity, and it will be interesting to see how it's received in Geneva.
